Why Tinctures?
One of the things we love about tinctures is their ease of use. More so than other forms of supplements, tinctures are gentle on the digestive system and absorbed quickly and easily.
The therapeutic benefits of functional mushrooms and herbs can be integrated into your daily routine with just a few drops per day. Personally, we love that they can be combined with one another, diluted in any beverage, and taken as one dose together -- so much more convenient than a handful of pills!
Exactly what is a tincture? By definition, a tincture is an extract that contains over 20% alcohol. Our tinctures contain between 25-35% alcohol. This ensures that our products have a long shelf life (most tinctures are shelf stable for several years) and that a significant percentage of the product is comprised of the compounds that are only soluble in alcohol.
A decoction is created by using water as an extraction medium. Certain bioactive compounds in mushrooms and herbs (like beta glucans) can only be extracted through a long process using the correct water temperature. Too much heat and the desirable components are damaged, too little heat and the extraction won’t be complete.
We add an additional process to our extraction method for functional mushrooms. The final phase of our extraction process is a heat and high-pressure extraction. There are some polysaccharide compounds in mushrooms that are best extracted by this combination.
At the end of the extraction process, we combine the alcohol extract with the water extracts, resulting in our final product, a liquid extract that is classified as a tincture. Overall, the process is designed to extract the full spectrum of active compounds, providing you with a whole mushroom extract.
